OPERATION

The GENO 400 Hz DIGICOM Power Converter Model 779 accepts 100 VAC–250 VAC, 50 Hz, 60 Hz, and 400 Hz input and converts the power to 120 VAC 60 Hz output. Two 20-amp circuits provide power to the four outlets. The power ON/OFF switch controls power; two LED indicators provide status. Two internal cooling fans operate when power is applied and provide cooling from the outside air through the vents. Each vent contains an air filter that can be removed for cleaning. There is an additional output connector on the front panel that is hardwired directly to the input connector.

ROACH and ROACH2 Systems

ROACH and ROACH2 Systems

A major and unique product offering from Digicom is its ROACH and ROACH2 (Reconfigurable Open Architecture Computing Hardware) systems that were developed with major universities and research labs throughout the world.

The ROACH2 systems take the baseband data from the most powerful radio telescopes, changes it from analog to digital, and applies sophisticated digital signal processing filtering techniques to derive information about our universe. These systems are customized for each application as some applications require downloading a tremendous amount of data quickly, while others want to selectively download the data. Intricate modules and box-build projects, such as the ROACH2 system, IADC (analog to digital conversion boards), and IBoB (interconnect break-out boards), are totally turnkey.

ROACH is a Virtex5-based upgrade to current CASPER hardware. It merges aspects from the iBOB and BEE2 platforms into a single board. The CX4/XAUI/10GbE interfaces of both are kept, while combining the Z-DOK daughter board interface of the iBoB with the high bandwitdth/capacity DRAM memory and standalone usage model of the BEE2. ROACH is a single-FPGA board, dispensing with the on-board inter-FPGA links in favor of 10GbE interfaces for all cross-FPGA communications.

ROACH2 was designed as the sequel to ROACH-1 using the new Xilinx Virtex-6 series of FPGAs. It maintains all the aspects that made ROACH-1 a success, but increases the overall performance in terms of processing power, IO throughput and memory bandwidth. It uses the same PowerPC 440EPx present on the ROACH-1 but adds a unified JTAG interface provided through an FTDI FT4232H IC.

Complex Cable Harness Assemblies

Digicom is experienced in building complex cable assemblies including power, data, radio, video, and co-axial type harnesses.

We build complex cable harness assemblies for power, data, radio, video, and co-axial type harnesses with a broad array of connector types, wire gauges, and outer sheath coatings. Using superior quality cables and gold plated connectors, Digicom cable assemblies can withstand the toughest environments.

Digicom supports many assembly methods including both manual and automated assembly of SMT, through-hole and mixed boards.

The cable harness shown here can be dredged in moist soil, oil, and dirt, be subjected to 500 degree F heat, and still be a fully functional harness. These harnesses can be made with a broad array of connector types, wire gauges, and outer sheath coatings.

IADC Board (Interconnect Analog to Digital Conversion)

These are examples of a custom IADC board (single) and a ROACH board with 2 IADC boards.

IBOB (Interconnect Break-out Board)

The IBOB is an FPGA-based processing board for DSP.

The IBOB features two Z-DOK connectors, to which a variety of I/O boards can be attached (including dual 1GSa/sec ADC, quad 250MSa/sec ADC and DAC). The IBOB has a Xilinx Virtex-II Pro 2VP50 FPGA, and is used in radio astronomy applications primarily for digitizing data, performing down conversion, filtering and FFT operations, and outputting this data over XAUI/10GbE, enabled by two CX4 connectors on the board. It can be used to provide a high-speed interface to BEE2 boards.
